Angle sum property of a triangle, exterior angle property of a triangle, pairs of angles, parallel lines and transversal.
Congruency of triangles: four cases, SSS, SAS, AAS, RHS. Simple applications. Problems based on (a) angles opposite equal sides are equal and converse; (b) If two sides of a triangle are unequal, then the greater angle is opposite the greater side and vice versa; (c) Sum of any two sides is greater than the third side; (d) Of all straight lines that can be drawn to a given line from a point outside it, the perpendicular is the shortest.
Mid point theorem (triangle) and its converse, equal intercept theorem.
Pythagoras theorem.
Quadrilaterals, fundamental properties.
Figures on the same base and between the same parallels: parallelograms on the same base and between the same parallels, triangles on the same base and between the same parallels.
Proof and use of theorems on parallelograms.
Circle: chord properties, arc and chord properties.
Construction of triangles, quadrilaterals and polygons.
Heron’s formula: Application of Heron’s formula in finding the areas of quadrilaterals.
Coordinate geometry: Cartesian system, plotting of points in the plane for given coordinates; solving simultaneous linear equations in two variables graphically; finding the distance between two points using distance formula.
Mensuration: Area and perimeter of a triangle, area and circumference of circle, surface area and volume of cube and cuboid; surface area and volume of right circular cone, right circular cylinder, and sphere.
Trigonometry: trigonometric ratios, trigonometric ratios of standard angles, simple 2D problems involving one right angled triangle, concept of trigonometric ratios of complementary angles and their direct application.
Statistics: introduction, collection of data, presentation of data, graphical representation of data; measures of central tendency, mean, median of ungrouped data.
